What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy or ART for short is the main modality that we use here at Veterans Alternative. ART is an evidence–based psychotherapy that fosters rapid recovery by reprogramming how the brain stores traumatic memories and imagery. The therapy incorporates memory visualization techniques that are enhanced by the use of horizontal eye movements, as well as memory reconsolidation, a way in which new information is incorporated into existing memories. ART is very specific and directive approach can achieve rapid recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been present for many years. While ART has been proven extremely effective in reducing post-traumatic stress and anxiety in a short period of time (1-3) sessions, it is also effective for increasing performance and productivity.
What makes Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) unique from other therapies?
ART focuses directly on how negative images are connected with emotional and physical reactions. The specific and unique way in which the techniques are delivered in ART tend to result in a more rapid and complete recovery. Clients find relief from distress by the end of a treatment session rather than having to wait for several sessions. There are many creative and powerful ways to apply these skills and aid clients in experiencing relief from diverse types of problems.
ART is directive and interactive, meaning clinicians guide clients in a way that prevents them from getting confused or “stuck” and allows clients to find their own solution to their problems. Conversation is a natural part of the therapy and ART techniques, but the clinician can also use guided imagery and ART with no conversation.
Is ART right for me?
The most important thing to remember about ART is that your participation is voluntary. You will never be pushed to discuss something you are not comfortable with. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, you have the right to end the session.
